Unminify HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Beautifier Online

Easily format compressed or minified code back into readable HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Our free tool helps you debug, edit, and maintain your code efficiently

Data to unminify:

An unminifier (or code beautifier) takes minified HTML, CSS or JavaScript, where everything is squeezed onto one line, and re-indents it so it is readable again. This tool detects the language automatically and formats it with js-beautify, entirely in your browser.

How to unminify code

  1. Paste the minified code into Data to unminify.
  2. Click Unminify.
  3. Copy the formatted result.

What beautifying can and can't restore

  • Restored: line breaks, indentation and spacing, so you can follow the structure, find a selector or set a breakpoint.
  • Not restored: comments and original variable names. If a minifier renamed userCount to a, it stays a. For full readability you need the original source or a source map.

When this is useful

  • Debugging a production bug when only the minified bundle is available.
  • Inspecting third-party scripts, such as a tag or widget, to see what they load or which cookies they set.
  • Reading a minified stylesheet to find which rule styles an element.
  • Cleaning up inconsistent indentation in a snippet before sharing it.

Browser developer tools can also pretty-print a file (the { } button in the Sources or Debugger panel), which is handy when you are already debugging a page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get the original source code back from minified JavaScript?

Not exactly. Formatting can be restored, but comments and renamed variables are gone. If the site publishes source maps, developer tools can show the original files.

What is the difference between unminify, beautify and prettify?

They mean the same thing here: adding back whitespace and indentation so code is readable. To format JSON specifically, use the JSON formatter.

Is my code sent to a server?

No. Formatting happens in your browser, so the tool is safe for private or proprietary code.
